Jepson Pottery Founded by Stephen Jepson in 1971, Jepson Pottery has always concentrated on decorative accessories and functional ware for cooking and serving. From simple earthy stoneware mugs to elegant, richly decorated porcelain plates and vases, everything is designed with function in mind to be not only beautiful, but a pleasure to use. Since 1986 Stephen and Tom have worked together, each contributing different talents and specialties. Collectively, they have 70 years of experience as professional potters. Their work has been seen in more than 40 regional and national juried and invitational exhibitions, and 20 one-man shows in museums and galleries, has won numerous awards and is included in the collections of a dozen museum including the Smithsonian Institute. Stephen Jepson received his MFA in ceramics from Alfred University in 1973. In the same year he established his studio in Geneva, Florida and the ceramics program at the University of Central Florida, where he taught for 8 years. Recently he has produced a series of Highly rated educational videos on pottery making. He is highly skilled in production throwing on the potters wheel as well as making large one-of-a-kind pieces. This year Stephen's work has been in Crafts National 29 in Pennsylvania, the Wichita National and the University of Central Florida National Invitational. Tom Shafer studied at the University of Iowa where he received an MA in 1965. He worked in his own studios in California, Connecticut, Delaware and Ohio before coming to Jepson Pottery. He has taught pottery classes at college, and art centers, written articles for Ceramics Monthly and published two books, Pottery Decoration and The Professional Potter. His specialties are handbuilding, mold making and decoration. |
